Goodbye Mr. G.

Thanks for 35 years of faithful service to hundreds and hundreds of children, Mr. G. The world will feel the impact for many generations to come.

Thomas R. Garfield portrait. Graphite.

Our kid’s school superintendent of 35 years is moving on to a new chapter of his life and career. I drew this portrait to honor him and presented it to him this weekend… well, that’s a bit grand. I drew it and wrapped it and handed it to him. He opened it. I think he liked it.

Librarians rock

I have a lot of respect for librarians. They are the keepers of literature, art, technology, information, and history.

Today I had the privilege of helping attend the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators of the Inland Northwest table at the Washington Library Association Conference at the Davenport in Spokane, Washington. I have rarely seen such enthusiasm for books, even in my highly erudite college-town, Moscow, Idaho.

Support your local library, folks!

(Here I am with a couple of highly talented Inland Northwest authors—Mary Cronk Farrell and Rani Iyer—showing off our books).

Mud

I’m pretty excited about the last illustration I finished. It’s getting pretty springy around here, and by that, I mean lots and lots of precipitation. And we all know what happens when copious amounts of water absorb into the earth. That’s right. Mud.

This painting has mud. I won’t show the whole picture. Oh no. That would give too much away. But here’s the detail with the mud. Happy Spring!
